Have you seen the 2016 trend on social media?

What? You haven’t?

That means you’re just as cool as me!

Maybe you’re even cooler than me and have seen it all over social media and already knew what it was. Me? I had to look it up to see what in the world was going on.

The “2016 trend” is really just a wave of nostalgia, where people recreate and celebrate the carefree style, music, filters, and viral moments from that year.

If you spend much time on social media—by that I mean more than a few minutes—I’m sure you’ve seen it floating around. Influencers, your next-door neighbor, your family… just about everyone is jumping on board the nostalgia train.

As I watched this trend take off, with people quickly sharing what they were doing in 2016 through pictures, music, and more, it reminded me of something. This is just one of many trends that catch on fast—and disappear just as fast.

Which got me thinking…

As we reflect not just on the past ten years, but maybe the past five, or even just the last year, what is our personal trend?

Is it a trend we would be proud to show others?

Maybe it’s a trend of growth.
Of perseverance.
Of challenge.
Of expansion.
Of deeper understanding.
Of movement forward.

We all have a trend—whether social media makes it “hip” or not.

So here’s my challenge to all of us:
Can we be more intentional about our trend?

Can we make sure it’s moving in a direction we’ve chosen—one that aligns with our values, our faith, and the life we truly want to live?

Because one day, 10 years from now, when 2036 arrives…

What will your trend look like?
