All last week, I was thinking about what insight I could share with you today.

My brain almost felt like a giant whiteboard filled with words, phrases, random ramblings, and lines drawn through all of them. Lines drawn through them because none of them seemed like, “Wow, that’s some real insight.”

Most of them just seemed like normal, everyday thoughts, words, or phrases.

As the week rolled on, I began to get a little concerned because nothing really seemed worthy of sharing.

Then, as I sat down to write—still not sure what I was going to write about—the thought came to me that a lot of life is just a day, just a week, just a year.

Nothing “wow” may necessarily happen in it.

Yet it’s still the smell of flowers that makes the day special.

It’s the cool breeze on a summer evening that brings relief from the heat.

It’s a year blessed with a job that provided.

It’s a safe space next to a spouse or loved one.

It’s really the ordinary, everyday moments that may not seem important enough to share, but make all the difference in our lives because we took a moment to recognize the extraordinary hidden within the ordinary.

My challenge to each of us is to realize that those things on the whiteboard of our minds with lines drawn through them may actually be the very things that make our lives amazing.

They are the moments that only we get to experience.

The extraordinary in the ordinary for me today is that when I sat down to write, I was blessed with the realization that all the ordinary moments in my everyday life are actually pretty extraordinary.

And I was able to share that thought with you.

Why settle for ordinary when you can find an extraordinary life in the everyday ordinary?
