Last year, another car backed into my truck, putting a little dent and scratch at the corner of the bumper. I had the bumper fixed, and ever since then, there have been little things about it that I noticed were messed up when I had it fixed. When I see things, I think I should have kept the little dent and scratch because that would have bothered me less than some of the other things about the bumper since I had it fixed.
I feel we have the same experiences in life. We have this little dent or scratch in our lives and think, “I will fix that. ” When we fix it, we notice other things that bother us more than that little dent or scratch. See, the dent and scratch on my truck were small, and only I knew they were there and would affect my truck in no way. The fix was just to make it look better if anyone closely examined it.
The little dent or scratch in our lives doesn’t really affect anything, just what others may see on the outside. With each dent and scratch in life comes a story, just as I had a story about how the dent and scratch happened to my truck. Those stories of our lives, dents and scratches, make up who we are and help shape our character.
Sure, we may like things a little rough on the outside, but those dents and scratches can help us have a polished inside.
I challenge each of us not to be so quick to fix those dents and scratches in our lives because sometimes they open the door to the opportunity to share our story of how those occurred and helped shape our lives.
