Each week, I design treadmill classes for every day of the week. Each day has a different theme, which requires a different music playlist. I create and keep all of my playlists on Apple Music. When I get ready to build a new one, Apple gives me five song options to choose from, or I can search for the music I want.

Sometimes I like one of the suggestions, so I add it to my playlist. When I hit refresh to see more options, the next list that comes up is filled with songs similar to the one I just added. As I choose different songs, the suggested list keeps changing—geared toward the type of music I just selected.

As the music changes based on what I choose, I begin to think about how often the same thing happens in our lives. We make a decision, and suddenly we begin seeing more things around us that look like that decision. Sometimes that comes from a good choice. Sometimes it comes from a bad one.

Just like the music Apple suggests to me, we can change our narrative with one decision—just as one song changes the suggestions. There may be things going on in your life right now that you don’t like, and they seem to be stuck on repeat. But what if, with one decision, you could begin to change the playlist of your life and start seeing more of what you actually want?

We are often just one song, one choice, away from changing the direction of our playlist of life.

The challenge for each of us is to evaluate our playlist and ask: What needs to be my next song choice? What decision do I need to make so I can begin changing the narrative of my life in the direction I desire?

Don’t let life choose your playlist for you. Each of us is in charge of the life we want.

Start directing the life you want—with your next choice.
